When is a house more than a home? When it's a castle! Maressa MacFarlane, archivist of the Essex County Parks system, will cover the history of Kip's Castle, the only one in Essex County, and some of its surprising uses over the last 120 years. Set in eleven acres of parkland, Kip's Castle straddles Montclair and Verona and provides spectacular views of New York City.
Maressa McFarlane is a lifelong New Jersey resident and has been working in the NJ history community for over 20 years. She is currently the Archivist and Grant Administrator for the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. In the upcoming year, she will also be working with a local historian to uncover and reveal the history and previous use of the land that ultimately became five Essex County parks.
