This class will introduce the work of the New Jersey Center for Indigenous Justice (NJCIJ) at Montclair State University. The NJCIJ walks in partnership with Tribal communities to re-Indigenize New Jersey by immersing students in holistic educational experiences and transforming how Montclair State University lives up to its responsibility to society. We will explore the meanings of tribal sovereignty and give examples of how our work on environmental justice exemplifies attention to tribal priorities and future-oriented work defined by a need for broader healing and understanding in our state.
