Auteurs and Authors with Montclair Film

Description

The Auteurs and Authors film discussion class will consist of three newly released films shown at Montclair Film Cinemas and an evening discussion at the library. (View films at your convenience.) What makes a filmmaker an auteur? In our discussions, we'll dive into the connection between authors, contemporary filmmakers, and how books influence these new films.

You may want to read the literary source material, but it is not required. Instead, we'll send articles, interview clips, etc. in preparation for the class discussions.

KLARA AND THE SUN, Directed by Taika Waititi. Discussion on November 2nd. Dystopian science fiction film based on the novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro.

FATHERLAND, Directed by Pawel Pawlikowski. Discussion on November 16th. Biopic about novelist Thomas Mann returning to Germany after WWII.
DUNE 3, Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Discussion on December 21st. Part 3 of the hit franchise based on the book series by Frank Herbert.
